Acne Gel Prescriptions

It may interest you to know that not all acne gel prescriptions will work for all types of acne. It is important to know the main ingredients that make them effective and on what type of acne they are most effective with.
Well this was one lesson learned when my girl friend recommended her acne gel prescription furnished by her dermatologist and to my dismay I ended up aggravating my acne. The acne gel prescription I used contained benzoyl peroxide.
I didn't know a thing about benzoyl peroxides in acne medications and that it could cause the skin to dry or that if I applied it on my skin, I'm supposed to stay out of the sun. Although effective in treating my acne breakout, I had this terrible sunburn while having acne at the same time.
Nevertheless, I found out later from the same dermatologist who recommended it to my girl friend that the best acne gel prescription for me is one that contained salicylic acid and not benzoyl peroxide. It turned out I had a more sensitive type of skin.
Aside from staying away from the sun, it was important that this type of acne gel prescription was applied on the entire face and not just the affected part. Otherwise, the acne causing bacteria will only move to a different spot and start the acne breakout all over again.
There is also the matter of not stopping the treatment as soon as the acne you're treating disappears. According to my dermatologist, there are what you call microcomedones. They are tiny spots that are not visible to the eyes but are waiting to breakout once they get the right amount of oil and dead cells for them to build-up as acne.
This would be the exact opposite in an acne gel prescription containing benzoyl peroxide. You are supposed to discontinue with its use, as soon as the acne you?re treating it with, disappears.
Nevertheless, acne gel prescriptions should not be recommended to just any body since they also tend to have side-effects too. First off, salicylic acid is suitable only for those types of acnes that are not inflamed. Otherwise, it can cause stinging and burning skin irritations just like benzoyl peroxide.
Both ingredients tend to dry the skin, but the acne gel prescription containing the salicylic ingredient has a dual acting effect as an exfoliant. Hence, it was also effective in sloughing off the dead skin cells off my sunburn.
Hence, it is also important that, in using acne gel prescriptions you should also use moisturizers with vitamin E content or some natural oils like jojoba or shea butter, to bring back your skin's natural moisture.
Use acne gel prescriptions if you must but make sure it's the right kind for your type of skin and type of acne.
