Acne in Children
You may think that acne in children is not something to be worried about. Although it does happen and considered as normally occurring, they actually have the semblance of rashes in newborn infants. What one should be wary of, are acne in children who are not supposed to be of the puberty stage. Children ages 9 to 12, who are suffering from acne are indications of hormonal imbalance at an early stage. In worst cases, the diagnosis for acne in children are endocrine disruptions or due to photosensitivity or harmful exposure to sunlight that can lead to cancer or melanoma.
Acne in children requires medical attention and should not be treated with just any over-the-counter medication. It should be carefully examined and evaluated by a physician to determine its root cause. In fact medical opinions have it that acne in children can even be a result of endocrine disruption wherein some tumors have been discovered as hormone-producing. Said tumors are said to have stemmed from drug medications that the child's body system could not absorb.
Hence if your child has acne, don't take it lightly but instead bring it to the attention of a medical practitioner. Acne in children is unnatural in as much as the sebaceous glands are not supposed to be active in the pre-puberty stage. However, if the type of acne in children you're dealing with are those that appear in babies who are in their fourth to fifth month, you are dealing with what is known as neonatal acne.
Neonatal acne is actually more alarming in appearance than the acne in children who are in their pre-puberty stage. Baby acne can be persistent and tend to appear more profusely on the forehead, cheeks and chin. This is said to be caused by hormones that were transferred during conception which lingers for awhile in the baby even after birth. Acne in children who are older is not the same condition considering their age group. Something had triggered their sebaceous glands to become active at an unexpected stage.
In caring for neonatal acne. it is important that the baby's skin is kept clean so as not to aggravate the pimples. Actually medical experts agree that there are no exact treatments for acne in babies; hence, taking proper care of their hygiene is the next best thing.
It is also unwise to bring your baby to areas where there are dusts or elements that can worsen the baby's skin condition. Keep the baby fresh and in a well ventilated room to avoid making the baby feel uncomfortable and irritable. Bathe the baby regularly and use only mild soap and water without any perfumes, colognes or any other additives.
Although, acne in children stem from different causes, the best way to treat them is by the same way you would treat a baby's acne. Only when the root cause of the acne in children has been determined and evaluated should prescribed medications be used.
