Choosing the Right Cosmetics for Acne Prone Skin

How to choose the right cosmetics for acne prone skin : I have an oily and acne prone skin so I am careful and very selective when it comes to choosing beauty products. I love makeup and the way they look on models seen in glossy magazines. I, somehow, envy those who can get away with some color on their faces.

Before buying anything from a beauty counter, I either have to sample the product or read the label for any ingredient that may cause my skin to break out. This is because at the simple touch of a product that is not appropriate for my skin, I can easily have a pimple in just a matter of time.

Acne prone skin needs to be well taken care of. I have to avoid anything that says comedogenic on its label. This means it can clog pores and this may lead to the development of acne. There are 2 other things I have to avoid in a product and these are:

• Lanolin
This is an ingredient found in some cosmetics such as moisturizers that easily irritates the skin.

• Isopropyl myristate
This is another ingredient that can easily cause skin irritation.

I have to carefully choose the following makeup products since most skin irritants are present in their ingredients:

• Moisturizers

Since using a moisturizer is a must for everyone, men and women alike, I need to buy formulas that are oil-free so I would not further add oil to my skin. They should also be non-comedogenic to make sure my pores wouldn’t get clogged.

• Foundation
Again, I should choose one that is oil free and light so my skin could breathe.

• Cream Blush On
I have to avoid any product that is too creamy and that could possibly clog my pores.

In case I make a mistake of buying makeup that causes my skin to break out, I discontinue using it. That is why I seldom buy products that come in regular sizes. I just do this once I have tested a sample on my skin.

It is a good thing that makeup companies have come up with mineral products that consists of only the finest ingredients that claim not to irritate the skin. When it was just new in the market, I was curious enough to buy the first ever mineral foundation powder. I must say, I was impressed. Not only did it look natural on me, it did not cause my skin to break out in any way.

Now almost every cosmetic giant has come up with their own version of mineral products, each boasting of special features such as SPF and paraben free formulas, among others. Besides foundation, there are mineral primers, mineral eye shadows and blushers.

Here are some good reasons why those with acne prone skin should think of changing to mineral makeup:

• Most conventional cosmetics contain chemicals that are harmful and irritating to the skin.

• Mineral cosmetics do not clog the skin pores. So, it is unlikely for pimples and other forms of acne to pop out.

• They protect the skin against pollutants in the environment.

• They protect the skin against the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

• Lastly, mineral makeup is also good for the environment. It does not pose any hazard in terms of production and disposal.

I am glad that these companies have come up with healthy mineral makeup. It allows me to look pretty without sacrificing the condition of my skin.
