How does one minimize the look of acne scars ? You may never realize the value of skin care until you are left with acne scars. These serve as a reminder of the times you cared less for the biggest organ of your body, your skin. Though I am not bothered by acne scars, I feel sorry for those who are. These may lower their self-esteem and affect their overall appearance.

Having acne scars can be demeaning. It can be a cause for teasing, Not only this, it can be a reason for rejection whether in courtship or on a job interview. Though it is not right to judge a person by his/her physical appearance, it is just human nature to make this mistake.

Acne is brought about by the oil and bacteria that is trapped inside the skin pores. Acne can be treated but if left unattended, it can lead to infection and furthermore, scarring. When the scars are too deep, it may be a challenge to totally eliminate their existence.

Our skin with the help of collagen has the ability to renew itself every 15-30 days. For this reason, scratches fade away in a short period of time. However, when the skin is damaged, it is not able to produce collagen. New skin cells are not able to reproduce without the production of collagen. This results to the permanence of scars.

For acne scars that appear as skin discolorations, these can be minimized with the help of natural products such as:

1. Baking Soda

This can be applied directly to the scar as a paste when combined with a little amount of water.

2. Lemon Juice

This can be applied, fully concentrated, on the discolorations to lift the dead skin cells and lighten them.

3. Vitamin E oil

When applied to the discoloration, it has the ability to smoothen skin while lightening it, altogether.

4. Aloe Vera extract and Lavender oil

It has the same function as Vitamin E oil in reducing scars.

For deeper acne scars, these can be minimized effectively with the help of the following treatments:

1. Dermabrasion

This method of treatment resembles a sandpaper in removing damaged skin.

2. Augmentation

Collagen is needed to form new skin cells. This method allows fat or collagen to be injected under the scars to make them resurface. However, the treatments take long, about 6 months.

3. Laser Resurfacing

This treatment makes use of a laser in removing the damaged skin and replacing it with a new one. Though it is capable of minimizing scars, its effects are not as great on darker skin since it brings about uneven skin tones.

4. Derma Roller

This procedure enables the dermis to produce collagen by means of a roller containing several tiny needles that prick the top layer of skin. New skins, then, resurface to replace the scarred tissue.

With the latest methods in skin enhancement, finally, there are ways to minimize acne scars, if not totally eliminate them. It is always better late than never. You don’t want to be called scar face, would you!
