How to Prevent Body Acne

I'd like to share the best ways I know of to prevent body acne. Acne on the chest, back, and even other areas of the body is very common but isn't talked about as much. I know what it's like to not want to take your shirt off in public places because of your back acne, so I want to give you as much knowledge as I can to get rid of body acne and to make sure it doesn't come back.

Here are my tips on body acne:

Avoid Irritation

This is a fairly basic idea. Avoiding irritation alone probably won't prevent body acne but it will be a step in the right direction, and every little bit counts.

Irritation of your skin can make your body acne worse, and can even cause new pimples to form.

  • Don't pick your skin or pop your zits. You'll end up pushing some of the pimple deeper into the skin, and this will eventually resurface as more pimples in the future.
  • Wear clean, loose, and breathable clothing.
  • When washing your body, don't use any sort of harsh scrub or rub excessively. A gentle wash is all that's needed. Be sure to shower after sweating excessively.

Improve Overall Health

Prevent Body Acne

Since the availability of acne medications for the back is more limited, you're almost forced to look for more serious treatments if the acne is severe. Many prescriptions medications have nasty side effects, and are not necessary as often as they are prescribed.

What's the alternative? Improve your health!

The reason you have acne in the first place isn't entirely due to chance or your genes. Hormone imbalance is the other part to the acne equation. Balance your hormones and your acne will likely disappear.

How do you balance your hormones? Well here are the bullet points:

  • Eat healthy
  • Exercise
  • Reduce Stress

Body Acne Medicine

While there aren't very many topical treatments that are specifically formulated for the back, I have found one I like to recommend. It's called Paula's Choice Skin Revealing Acne Body Lotion with 10% AHA, and is a very high quality product that helps your body exfoliate.

There are other options like antibiotics and accutane, but I don't generally recommend them. They are worth speaking about with your doctor or dermatologist though, so don't rule out any options.
