Treatments for Acne Scars and Marks

Treatments for acne scars and marks can come with many risks and a hefty price tag. Be sure to fully inform yourself before making any sort of treatment decision.

Treatments can be lumped into two categories, invasive and non-invasive. Invasive procedures tend to be the surgical ones, whether it be through special mechanical tools, lasers, or something else entirely. They tend to be much more expensive since they require the help of a specialist, are higher risk, and tend to be more painful with a longer recovery period. On the plus side, they generally give better and faster results.

Non-invasive procedures include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, light therapy, and more. These types of treatments do not hurt or irritate the skin as much as the invasive procedures. Usually, they help to exfoliate the dead skin cells to help new ones grow in their place more quickly. These procedures do not have as much risk because they do not do as much damage to the skin, but at the same time they do not give as good of a result.

The basic risk/reward principle with treatments for acne scars and marks is that the more you damage the skin, more healing has to take place. With more healing you improve the chances of your skin erasing the scar. Certainly, not all acne scar treatments are created equally.

How to Cure Acne Scars

Treatments for Acne Scars Marks

Can you really cure acne scars? Well that depends on how you define "cure". It is certainly possible to make your scars less visible, but unfortunately there isn't any magic treatment that will get rid of all your scars 100%.

Many acne scar "cures" are very expensive and risky as well. You could very well end up worse off than you were before, or at least in the long run. Really ask yourself if it is worth the price to you.

Are you putting unreasonable blame on your scars? Do you think all your problems will go away once your scars are gone as well? You may have a limiting belief that is holding you back. In truth, having acne scars does not limit your potential at all. Don't let it be a scapegoat for all your problems.

I personally decided to not pursue any special acne scar treatments, because I didn't think my scarring was bad enough that it would prevent me from doing the things I want to do. Don't get me wrong, I certainly have a lot of scars from all the acne I've had over the years. I just choose to not let it bother me.

With that being said, I understand that some scarring can be very devastating and the rewards are worth the risk. Here are some of the acne scar treatments available to you:

  • Chemical Peels
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Laser Resurfacing
  • Light Therapy
  • Dermabrasion Acne Scar Removal
  • Punch Techniques
  • Subcision
  • Saline Injections
  • Augmentation

Be sure to fully investigate your options and also consult with a few different dermatologists before pursuing any of the treatments for acne scars and marks.
